Your Acid Reflux Disease Diet
Most people think, quite correctly, that by following an acid reflux disease diet, they will get relief from heartburn and all the other troublesome symptoms. Basically the message is to follow a low acid food diet and go for more alkaline foods. This is easier said than done especially when you are under pressure. There may not be time to prepare dishes which are not processed foods.
Apparently, the fats, sugars and starches in a lot of the food we eat is to be avoided if we are to make any headway with a diet like this.
Generally, we have to avoid full fat dairy products because they contain lactic acid. But there are lots of other opportunities if we choose to eat any cheese which is low fat or better again fat free. That would include feta,
humanity card game, goat cheese or even soy cheese if it is low fat.
Generally when it comes to the breads and the pasta, soda bread is recommended if you can get it or even bake it yourself if you have the time. But generally whole wheat breads and pasta are alright as well as rice.
You can choose any vegetables you like and these include cabbage,
cards against humantiy, cauliflower and green peas. You can indulge in garlic onions and leeks occasionally. Leafy greens are great as they can give you those extra minerals that you will need. You may want to avoid the broccoli or cabbage as they tend to produce gas and this may lead to more discomfort.
As regards the fruits all the acidic ones are really out such as the citrus family, so that means that oranges, lemons and grapefruit are on the black list. I know that some people allow themselves occasional breaks by having a few strawberries or raspberries. Yogurt can be taken in moderation.
Basically, we are going to have food which is cooked simply and has a few condiments but that does not mean no dressing on your salad. In fact you could easily have a lemon chive salad dressing which is much better than going for processed mayonnaise for example. The chive salad dressing has some lemon juice (allowed occasionally), olive oil, chives, sugar and pepper. This is just one possibility which shows us that the acid reflux disease diet is not so boring after all!
